Funded by the Wolfson Foundation, the Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Centre opened in 1967 -  the first such facility in the UK dedicated to neurological recovery.  It provided a rehabilitation service for patients who need intensive therapy for physical or psychological disabilities following brain or spinal cord injuries.  It had 32 beds and extensive therapy and out-patient areas.


Present status (April 2008)

The Centre was still operational in 2008 but the building was 40 years old and in need of refurbishment; the patient accommodation was cramped with no single room provision for long-stay patients.  Discussions were currently taking place as to its future.


Update:  May 2012

The Centre closed in March 2012, some eight years after its neighbour the Atkinson Morley's Hospital.  Services moved to St George's Hospital in Tooting and will eventually move to Queen Mary's Hospital in Roehampton.
