This website gives several hospital histories. www.british-history.ac.uk For an overall view of how an area developed, with its public utilities, etc. Unfortunately, it seems not to have been updated since about 1991. www.nationalarchives.gov.uk For basic information about hospitals throughout the UK, this site was most useful. Unfortunately, this too has not been undated for a while. www.nhshistory.net A up-to-date comprehensive and detailed outline of the NHS from its beginnings in 1948. www.workhouses.org.uk A lovely site which gives great detail about workhouses, their history, their infirmaries (from which many NHS hospitals were derived) and other information about the Metropolitan Asylums Board. BOOKS Barry G, Carruthers LA 2005 A History of Britain's Hospitals. Sussex, Book Guild Publishing This book gives an overall view of the development of hospitals within the UK
