Oakwood V.A.D. Hospital (also
known as Oakwood Military Hospital) opened in March 1915. Its
first patients were 6 servicemen suffering from frostbite.
The Hospital had 20 beds (later increased to 27) and was affiliated to Colchester Military Hospital. It was run by the Essex/82 Voluntary Aid Detachment, whose staff included a Matron, Commandant and Quartermaster. Trained nurses were also posted to the Hospital by the Joint War Committee. Two local G.P.s provided medical care. The Hospital closed in February 1919. Present status (February 2019) The building is now residential. |
