ALMSHOUSES OF LONDON
|
---|
In 1981, during a major upgrading of Garrett's Almshouses, two modern almshouses were built by the Jesus Hospital Charity on a vacant plot of land just to the left of Garrett's Almshouses. They were named after Mary Ravenscroft, the wife of James Ravenscroft, who had founded the Jesus Hospital. The almshouses were occupied by May 1983.
Current statusWood Street now contains three functioning almshouses - the original Ravenscroft Cottages, now named Jesus Hospital, at Nos. 62-72, Garrett's Almshouses at Nos. 76-86 and Mary Ravenscroft Cottages at Nos. 88-90. |
