In 1915 Lady Mary Meynell opened a
hospital for officers in her own home in Lennox Gardens. It had
23 beds.
The Hospital was affiliated to Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital in Millbank and was run by the Chelsea Voluntary Aid Detachment.
The future Prime Minister Harold Macmillan was a patient here in 1915 after being wounded in the hand during the Battle of Loos. His mother was a friend of Lady Mary Meynell, and the Hospital was known to be particularly efficient.
By 1917 the Hospital had 29 beds.
It closed in December 1918.
