In December 1914 Miss Annie Birkett offered the War Office the use of two beds in her Nursing Home at No. 7 Mandeville Place.
By 1917 the Nursing Home had become the Birkett Hospital. It had 40 beds for sick and wounded officers and was affiliated to Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital at Millbank. Miss Birkett remained in charge as the Organiser and Commandant of the Hospital, while a Matron took care of nursing matters. The Hospital presumably closed in 1919.
