At the beginning of WW1 the
premises were used to accommodate Belgian refugees - families who had
fled the
battlefields. In December 1914, however, the house was converted
into a hospital for sick and wounded Belgian soldiers.
The Hospital for Belgian Soldiers had 25 beds, all of which were occupied by 16th January 1915. The Hospital was run by the London/50 Voluntary Aid Detachment. Its Commandant was Mrs Scott-Gatty, the niece of the Earl of Sandwich. The Earl had been one of the first to offer hospitality to Belgian refugees when they arrived in England and, indeed, was the Chairman of the Belgian Relief Committee.
The Hospital closed in 1917.

The Grade II listed property is now divided into apartments.
