At the outbreak of war, the businessman Sir
Robert Borwick promised to pay £2,000 a year for the maintenance
of a hospital for sick and wounded Colonial officers.
Two established nursing homes were chosen - one run by Miss Bertha Lancaster at No. 29, Wimpole Street and Miss Pollack's at No. 50, Weymouth Street.
The Nursing Home for Colonial Officers had 30-40 beds. Pending the arrival of Colonial patients, English officers were accommodated.
The Wimpole Street premises are not listed by the British Red Cross Society in 1917, so presumably closed sometime in 1915-1916.
Present status (August 2012)
The building has been converted into apartments.
